Cowboy hats
I love hats! I have straw hats, felt hats, fur hats,flowered hats and especially cowboy hats. I love wearing them going to the store or even going on a bike ride. Recently my daughter was talking to me about funny “cowboy” sayings that people use in the south that could be applied to stories or people in bible, like saying someone was “more hat than cattle” or “more hat than cowboy”… and I said, “oh like Judas, the one who betrayed Jesus.”
We both laughed, and before hanging up, she asked me to think of some more cowboy sayings.
Then this morning, I was just waking up at just before seven am and I heard people talking. The voices were coming from the TV in the kitchen that had somehow come on and there was a guy from the rodeo talking about a cowboy hat, and how he would “know that hat anywhere”.
I did not turn on the TV and nobody else is awake here so I am guessing that “electronics” “got woke” to us know “IT” likes and how “IT” wants to be in our cowboy sayings “game”.
I love how “suggestions” from our environment are only suggestions and we can still choose what we believe is true and this “environment” is and opportunity that give us space in our thinking to understand and demonstrate God MORE. I took this TV coming on by itself, to mean that any or all of the “electronic” “cowboys” (google, twitter, facebook, tik tok etc.) who get involved in “the game of life” are “More hat than cowboy”. =)
Then I thought about Canada, and the PM’s “show of force” or the Ukraine and “concern” marketed to the masses about electronic warfare, or the computer hacks by China, and I think ALL of these are also “more hat than cowboy”.
Here is what I know about “real” cowboys. They are hardworking (like the truckers), mostly Christian (like the apostles), humble (like the women, children and fishermen) and have “dirt on their boots” but are forgiven, like all of us.
They do not need to make threats or take what is not theirs, but they defend what is. I am glad that I believe in people and their goodness because that is what Jesus did. I hope that when I hang my hat up, people will recognize it, the same way the guy on the TV recognized it, because THIS owner is MORE COWBOY THAN HAT.
In contrast, Trudeau and Biden, maybe we recognize WHAT YOU SAY are your “hats”, but we think you must have stolen them off crickets because nobody is listening any more.
