HEY COW

Kids are so much fun to travel with. We were passing through the Texas panhandle and suddenly Eevie and Damon rolled down their window and yelled “HEY COW”, pretty much expecting the cows to look up and moo. Their dad started that “tradition” and once we understood the game, we joined in yelling “HEY COW” whenever we saw a herd. It was indeed nerve shattering though each time!

We also learned that when the kids went to church a few Sundays ago, their dad said “LOOK we are going to SMASH this cone”. Apparently the cone was blocking them from the area that they usually parked in, so dad saw that as an opportunity to have fun with his kids and flatten the offending cone =).

McDonald's won as our breakfast stop by a unanimous vote, but we did not get BUTTER. OMG how could they forget the butter hahah. We still enjoyed the pancakes sausage and eggs as always, yummy at McDonald's.

We learned about ALL and I mean ALL of the Pikmin from Damon, including which ones are immune to fire and which ones are stronger. I think if he could, Damon would grow up to be a Pikmin. But we told him that they are imaginary, but that we will listen to every detail that he shares with us.

Part of the conversation beyond Pikmin, as translated by Eevie, was that there is someone who drank “cactus juice” in a movie, and they acted coo-coo crazy and it included some giant mushroom and the last avatar and some kind of air-bender. (ok last Avatar air bender, that part was questionable in my opinion lol). We had to have a talk about people drinking things that make them coo-coo crazy.

We heard Eevie sing an entire song in Korean, and it was so sweet. Also sweet to hear her favorite song “restart” by the newsboys, on my phone. Not so sweet is how they yell at each other when one gets the best of the other. They each had back packs with things they wanted to bring on the trip and I had IKEA bags full of clothes in the bed of the truck for them to wear.

When we stopped at Buckees, they were thrilled, Damon with his planet puzzle that glows in the dark, and EEvie with her unicorn stalls and six colorful unicorns. I was thrilled with clean bathrooms lol. We did NOT get coffee since B. has given up coffee…and I got a box of junior mints and a box of whoppers. I KNOW I KNOW…but it is something about hours of driving that drives me to candy. haha.

We listened to the Astros game and the kids are HUGE Astros fans.

We discovered that all the rest stops in Texas are beautifully maintained and great places to stop and let the kids play for a bit and go to the bathroom. Some even have museum items in them that are interesting to see. I do not remember if it was Dalhart or Clayton, but one of those small towns now has a Starbucks and a H TEA O. I like them apples.

We stopped at a lovely side of the road fruit and veggie stand and got some great peaches and pecans and a variety of jams. That was fun. We listened to “the message” radio station and were impressed by how many songs Eevie knows. “I am Christian ya know” she reminded us when we complimented her.

We were exhausted by ten pm and the hotel we hoped to stay at was completely full as were many others on this holiday weekend. But we found one that was not full. It was not cheap however and I would have to say it was definitely a no frills hotel and the owner is just trying to make it work. But he really needs to fix the ice machine and get rid of all the broken toilets and building materials surrounding the premises. But the shower was hot and the beds were clean…not THAT comfortable. Still, driving up I warned my husband that the place looked “sketch”.

Little miss big ears in the back seat was listening and the next day when we were leaving, she told me that “even though this hotel looked scratchy, it was not so bad” hahah.

Dinner was at Fiesta Mexican, and we all loved it.

Happy girl
happy boy

All in all it was a fun but LONG drive and we plan to go to the fourth of july parade, the quilt show, car show, and pancake breakfast. Happy fourth of july. YAY.
