Patriotism and “our father”
July 31, 2021
Have you heard the song “I was country, when country wasn’t cool”? Well I would like to substitute a few words and say “I was christian, when christian wasn’t cool”.
To be Christian, is to love God, and love our neighbors as ourselves. Those are the two most important commandments that Jesus told us about during his time on earth. To me, Christianity and patriotism are practically synonymous. When we see people make mistakes, we still believe in God. And when we see fellow countrymen make mistakes, we still believe in patriotism.
Patriot comes from Greek patriotes “fellow countryman,” from patrios “of one’s fathers,” patris “fatherland,” from pater (genitive patros) “father” . Interestingly enough, in Christianity we also talk about OUR FATHER, who art in heaven, which means we see our father in a state of perfection, even when the current environment does not match perfectly.
The origin of our language, like the origin of our thinking, can be very enlightening. By looking at the origin of words, we an understand their importance in our environment because that which we do, we must first think or believe.
Though Google may have stopped providing a Latin translator, it does not mean that such language of origin is dead or that “Our Father” is dead either, and our devotion has not been dismissed or diminished, no matter what Google does. Progress does not mean that we pretend that our origins do not exist and also does not mean that we try to destroy our origins.
Destroying statues, destroying access to a language of origin, or destroying a Latin mass, does not do anything to what is true or good.
The media as a tool to convince people of the truth of something, cannot replace the actual truth. And those “tools” which cannot be trusted because they are deceptive, cause their own demise.
No Google, Serbian does not replace the Latin language in translation. You err greatly. No Pope Francis, you cannot choose to destroy the Latin mass, or destroy priests who have not committed crimes like Father Altman, and defend or “protect and hide” those who are embezzling or child molesting. You also err greatly and are not hid from the sight of God, no matter how high you are in a “church” hierarchy.
You cannot pretend Latin does not exist, that Patriotism is gone, or that God is not real…. you can try, but people still know the Truth.
The truth will set you free from you position of influence, or humble you, when you exalt yourself. And the humble Christians and patriots, who continue to believe in God, Truth, and Love, shall be exalted, and are, in fact, the “stars” spangled on that banner which yet waves, ‘ore the land of the STILL FREE, and the home of the still brave. And our national anthem still is, Oh say can you see, and my answer is…“Oh say we CAN ‘SEA’, by the dawns early light”.
