Water please…

Recently when I was talking to my “madre” she commented that she is drinking a lot more water and that she learned how being dehydrated is the cause of a majority of problems with people.

I have been thinking about that because when I was with “Little miss” and she was feverish, I gave her a big cup of ice cold water to drink and it was remarkable how that one simple thing caused the fever to diminish entirely. She has been struggling with remembering to go to the potty so it could be tempting to NOT give her water later in the day, to help prevent potty accidents, but actually water is beneficial and we are told by the experts that it should NOT be limited, and can alleviate fever and prevent a lot of other problems as well.

For example, I read somewhere that there is a theory that dehydration is a trigger for panic attacks. I have had panic attacks myself in the past (and even went to the ER) and I did many things to avoid having them EVER AGAIN…but the most simple thing and the most effective was to drink more water.

When I had the first panic attack it was after playing volleyball all afternoon outside in hundred degree weather without drinking much water. I used to mistakenly think (like many people), that anything LIQUID counted as water…but in fact coffee, alcohol, every kind of tea, and pretty much all soft drinks and wine are all diuretics, which means they cause people to LOSE water.

So someone who is drinking any of these things, needs to drink even more water to compensate for what they will lose by drinking “diuretics”. Also drinking coffee causes re-flux, so people who drink too much of this will wake up with a “throw up in the mouth” sensation..not a pleasant thing. There is a reason water is so important as our MAIN GO TO for a drink.

We are watching Ted Lasso, and in season one about half way through the season, he also had his first “panic attack” AFTER drinking heavily and falling asleep…remember how alcohol is a diuretic..he was DEHYDRATED? Funny how without realizing it, the movie industry was actually accurate for a change..lol. Hey TED, Lasso a water bottle!

These different beverages may be more fun to drink than water, but if people (myself included) knew how much NOT Drinking water affected them they might think twice about over consuming diuretics.

Water also helps with weight loss. Apparently many times when a person THINKS they are hungry, they are actually thirsty. Drinking water first prevents over eating.

Joel Olsteen says to water the flowers and not the weeds…and uses that analogy to paying attention to what is good in our lives and how, by doing that, the GOOD will flourish.

Literally speaking, it is an interesting analogy that when we choose to “water” other beverages (pay more attention to them than to water) , we are actually LOSING water. lol. Like flowers, we literally need to ABSORB water, not deplete ourselves of it. Right? Coffee, alcohol and tea are the weeds. Uh huh!

Jesus walked on water, which makes me wonder if he was doing more than just showing us that mankind is capable of defying the rules of nature. I wonder if he was also showing us that dependence on water is the foundation of “the human condition” and that it can, with obedience to spiritual laws, be put in submission. We have those laws written out for us… in the bible and with the ten commandments.

Yes, it is a theory of mine and I am working on a better understanding of my spiritual nature. I am trying to be obedient to spiritual laws and I am studying the life of Jesus through the bible, but until I can actually walk on water, I am going to also try really hard be better at DRINKING water. =)
