When should we weigh, after thanksgiving?
When is it the right time to weigh yourself after thanksgiving?
Now this might seem like a “first world question”, but actually I think that it is a question worth answering. I mean, we don’t want to have to be hiding behind our hair because we ate so much we can’t button our pants lol.
We CAN control our menu and our exercise, even when there are so many difficult things in this world, that might seem out of our control. I personally know how keeping fit and active, especially during a time of feasting and gratitude can be, at the very least, challenging.
I planned to “eat lightly” over the holidays, but at the same time, I was responsible for preparing the feast. I was not about to skimp on the ingredients, only the freshest and the richest and the best were suitable. Which means that the food was going to be all the things I loved and remembered from thanksgivings past.
So when did I decide to weigh myself? Well, I weighed myself two days after thanksgiving.
And I held my breath…haha, not because it changed what the scales would say, but because I was NOT wanting to be de-incentivized if I had gained too much weight.
I was worried. One part of me wanted to wait at least a week and give myself time to get back down to the weight I was before. But the other part of me knew that I had to get back “on track”, literally, right away, because the longer I delayed weighing, the longer it would be before I “acknowledged” the consequences of my “less than perfect” holiday eating choices.
I knew the weight loss plan I was using, worked (weight watchers) and so I wanted to stay “on board” and stay “above board” as well, as much as possible. PLUS I knew that it was going to be hard to go back to clean eating after going “off the grid” for a few days.
YAY, I only gained two extra pounds. So now I need to throw away the Halloween candy, the leftover pies and potatoes, and the brown sugar and coffee cream. These sugars and fats continue to be my downfalls. And I will do it and will pay attention to the things I can do here in my own world, one day at a time, no regrets, to continue to make progress on my weight loss goals.
So can you. I know it is politically correct to say “love your “curves”” but I was raised to show self control, self discipline and balance and moderation…all things that contribute to a fit and healthy physique.
Curves that are the result of laziness, lack of physical activity, and excess, are not worthy of celebrating. That is what I think, my personal opinion.
I am getting used to eating more salads and fruits and veggies, and proteins. The reality is, there are lots of “free foods” that fill, and do not contribute to excessive weight gain.
So, it was ok that I enjoyed the meal on thanksgiving, and even ok that I enjoyed the leftovers…but now it is even better that I decided to continue to make progress to get good results, by going back to basics. I think I will try some of those new, lite recipes listed on my program. And I am going to add a spin on my stationary bike for fifteen minutes to my hour of walking to “kick it up a notch”.
And if you have not weighed, because, like me, you are worried, the time is NOW. Don’t “WEIGHT”.
